The Super Eagles literarily destroyed the Eagles of Mali to book a place in the final of the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
At the end of the 90 minutes encounter, Nigeria triumphed by four goals to one.
It was all Mali until Nigeria’s Brown Ideye broke free inside the area to fire in an angled strike that keeper Mamadou Samassa did brilliantly to save with his outstretched foot.
The match settled down a little bit after that early flurry of activity.
The battle seems to be happening in the middle of the pitch, the only difference is that Nigeria seem to have more pace on the break.
Wonderful play from Chelsea’s Victor Moses resulted into Nigeria’s first goal.
He turned the defenders inside and out on the right before delivering an inch-perfect cross for Braga left-back, Elderson Echiejile, who stooped down to head in.
It all happened down the right side again.
This time, Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Emenike, breaks forward and lays the ball into the path of the fast-arriving Brown Ideye, who bundles in, under pressure, from close range.
The second goal appeared to take a small deflection, the third took a huge deflection.
Emmanuel Emenike scores what he thinks is his fourth goal of the tournament with a low free-kick from 20 yards that strikes Momo Sissoko in the wall, wrong-foots Mamadou Samassa and creeps in just inside the left-hand post.
The powers-that-be awarded Sissoko the goal.
The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has showered encomium on the victorious Super Eagles, saying the victory has restored the pride and dignity of Nigerians in global affairs.
Reacting to the superlative performance of the Nigerian lads over their Malian counterparts, Mark thanked the Eagles for the victory and asked them to remain focused ahead of the next encounter.
According to Mark: “This victory is well deserved.
“You have brought pride to the nation.
“We shall do our own part to honour you.
“The nation is proud of you.
“Please do more to bring the trophy back home.
“We are anxiously waiting like an expectant mother.
“Let me reiterate that the National Assembly will do the needful to reward you.”
