NFF begs Keshi to rescind quit decision

The Nigeria Football Federation has begun the process of pleading with the Head Coach of the Super Eagles to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, to rescind his decision to quit.
Keshi had after the final match of the tournament given the NFF his letter of resignation.
Keshi, who had given a hint of his decision to quit during the tournament, carried out the threat moments after the final game, which Nigeria won against Burkina Faso, to emerge champions.
But on Monday evening, after the news of Keshi’s resignation broke and with adverse reactions worldwide, the NFF called for a meeting with Keshi.
The meeting, which was still is session as at 11:30 pm Nigeria time on Monday, was attended by Keshi; the Super Eagles Captain, Joesph Yobo; and top officials of the NFF.
It was held in one of the rooms of the hotel where the Super Eagles lodged in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Keshi’s grouse with his employers, it was learnt, was predicated on undue interference with his job and poor conditions of service.
He is allegedly owed salaries and allowances.
Though Keshi and his assistants have denied the media reports that they are being owed, sources said the story remains true.
It was also learnt that Keshi’s main grouse is with the Minister of Sport, Bolaji Abdulahi, who has been angling for the hiring of a foreign coach to replace him.
It was learnt that Abdulahi never believed the team would go beyond the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and had demanded for the resignation letter of Keshi before the match.
It was learnt that the exit of the Super Eagles would have been a major point for the minister to use in convincing President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the need to hire a foreign coach.
Keshi gave a hint in this direction during one of the press conferences he addressed in the course of the Africa Cup of Nations.
He had said that he was not against the hiring of quality foreign coaches for African teams but not those African coaches were better than.
