Obasanjo, Otedola worship, dine with Jonathan

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the cynosure of all eyes on Sunday when he paid a surprise visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Being a Sunday, Obasanjo made his way straight to the Aso Rock Chapel where he was said to have joined President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience, for the weekly service.
Accompanied by two of his daughters and business mogul, Femi Otedola, Obasanjo, was said to have read the second lesson of the service and led a prayer session.
Both President Jonathan and his ‘August’ visitor were said to have visited the Children’s Church where Chief Obasanjo offered prayers for the children.
After the church service, Chief Obasanjo was said to have followed President Jonathan to the residence where they had lunch.
The former President’s mission at the Presidential Villa was not clear.
It could not also be ascertained whether he had a private discussion with President Jonathan while at the residence for lunch.
However, the fact that he came to the Villa in company with Otedola could raise dust.
It will be recalled that the vocal former Chairman of Education Committee of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, was arraigned in court last week for allegedly collecting a bribe of $620,000 from Otedola, who is the Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited.
A lot of Nigerians have called for the prosecution of Otedola alongside Lawan, who is now remanded in Kuje Prison in Abuja.
The visit is also surprising because of the perceived face-off between the former president and President Jonathan.
Obasanjo had criticized Jonathan for his handling of the security situation in the country.
The latest of the criticism was in an interview he granted the February 2013 edition of a pan-African magazine.
Obasanjo also spoke in the same vein on a CNN interview.
A former Minister in the Obasanjo regime, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, also criticized the Jonathan administration last week.
Jonathan’s spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, in an article on Sunday, castigated those he termed yesterday’s men for criticizing the present administration.
Not wasting so much time, another minister in Obasanjo’s regime, Femi Fani-Kayode, took on Abati.
