I'm not a Nigerian - Femi Kuti

Femi Kuti, first son of the late Afro beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is said not to be limiting himself to being a Nigerian.
Rather, Kuti sees himself as a citizen of the African continent based on the music he plays, which is more welcome and acceptable in other black nations where Afrobeat is played and enjoyed than in Nigeria.
Kuti said: “Afrobeat can never die.
“Maybe in Nigeria.
“But in America, there are about 40 to 50 bands in New York alone.
“So when you think that Afro beat is dying in Nigeria, in other parts of the world, it is becoming bigger and more popular.
“It does not matter where it originated from because we are all from the same planet.
“I’m not going to get caught in the foolishness of being Nigerian.
“I am an African.
“When you understand the history of Nigeria, Nigeria is a colonial structure set in motion by Lady Lugard.
“So Nigeria is not our name.”
