Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has assured the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party of the support of Akwa Ibom State people to assist in strengthening the party to win 2015 general election.
Akpabio stated this on Friday when the Chairman of the PDP BOT, Chief Tony Anenih, visited him in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Those who accompanied Anenih on the visit included the BOT Secretary, Senator Ahmed Jibril; former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani; Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremandu; former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Ahmadu Ali; former Secretary of the BOT PDP and former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; former Governor of old Enugu State, Chief Jim Nwobodo; and former Minister of Aviation, Chief Tonye Graham Douglas.
Akpabio said: ”I assure the National Working Committee and National Chairman that my state and all PDP faithful will work with you and NWC to strengthen our party and to ensure total victory in 2015 and beyond.
“As usual with some of us, we do not only work for the party in the state, we go across the states, because as individuals and as a state we have built bridges across the Niger.
“We will go beyond the shoreline of Akwa Ibom State to attract followers to the party and to propagate the ideals of the party for it to continue to grow.”
Akpabio charged the BOT to find out during their visit to the state his level of performance, adding: “Ask how is the party performing?
“How is Akpabio performing?
“This is a state that belongs to a PDP government.
“We must also find out whether there is cohesion, whether there is unity and whether they are reaching out, whether they are getting prepared to capture Government House in 2015.”
The governor, who said tour of states is enshrined in the PDP constitution, thanked the BOT for commencing the nationwide tour from Akwa Ibom State, particularly for joining hands with President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint him as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, BOT member and member of PDP National Caucus.
Anenih said the board decided to visit Akwa Ibom State first due to the governor’s performance and integrity, adding: ”It is because of the way the leadership of the party rates him high.
“That is why we decided before we visit any other state, we must be in Akwa Ibom.
“When we came in here, I was amazed.
“If PDP ever took any right decision, this is one them
“That is the summary of how much we appreciate you.’
Anenih, who said they visited the state to discuss with him about party matters to benefit from the wealth of his experience, not to inspect development projects, lauded Akpabio’s development strides, appealing to him to ensure a good and responsible person is allowed to succeed him as governor in 2015.
