54 killed as Boko Haram, soldiers clash

No fewer than 54 persons were killed on Friday night as members of dreaded sect, Boko Haram, and soldiers of the Joint Task Force clashed in Borno State on Friday.
The clash, which erupted when the JTF stormed the hideout of the terrorist, led to the death of 52 suspected Boko Haram members and two soldiers.
A statement on Saturday by the spokesperson of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, said the operation took place in Jajeri, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in an expansive compound used by Boko Haram as its armoury.
Recovered from the compound were three vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns and several sophisticated weapons.
Musa said: “…. there was exchange of fire between the resisting Boko Haram gunmen and soldiers which led to the death of 52 Boko Haram militants including ten commanders of the sect.
“The JTF lost two personnel and three were wounded.”
On the weapons recovered, Musa said: “3 Anti Aircraft Guns, 10 Rocket Propelled Grenades Tubes, 3 General Purpose Machine Gun, 17 AK47 Rifles, 3 G-3 Rifles, 11, 068 rounds of Assorted Ammunitions, 3 Technical vehicles with mounted anti aircraft stands’ and other cache of smaller arms and explosives coupling kits.”
He described the weapons haul as unprecedented in the operations of the JTF.
