Obasanjo, IBB, Buhari absent as Council of State pardons Alamieyeseigha, others

Four retired generals and former Heads of State, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Muhammadu Buhari and Abdusalami Abubakar, were conspicuously absent at the Council of State meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday.
The Council State is an advisory body to the President and Commander-in-Chief.
It comprises of the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, former Heads of State, former Chief Justices of the Federation and the 36 state governors.
Former Heads of State in attendance were General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari and the Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan.
Also present were former Justices Idris Kutigi, Alfa Belgore and Dahiru
Musdapher.
There was no official briefing after the meeting.
However, it was learnt that security situation in the country and granting of state pardon to some key Nigerians topped the agenda.
Among those said to have been pardoned was a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha.

Others pardoned were a former Chief of General Staff, retired General Oladipo Diya; a former Chief of Staff Supreme, late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua; Major Bello Magaji; Mohammed Lima Biu; Shettima Bulama; late Major General Abdulkareem Adisa; and Major Segun Fadipe.
In attendance at the meeting were Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mohammed Bello Adoke.
The state governors present were Godswil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Anambra’s Peter Obi, Muritala Nyako of
Adamawa, Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sokoto’s Aliyu Wamako, Dakingari of Kebbi, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara.
