Mysterious fire razes 200 houses in Lagos

A fire outbreak on Thursday night at a plank market in Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State has razed houses in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire began at a canal on Demurin Street at about 9pm.
But as at press time, nobody could explain the cause of the fire.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity said: “The fire has destroyed over four houses already and it is still spreading.
“The fire service brought three tankers of water but the water has been exhausted and the fire has still not been put out.
“The fire started late at night when many people had already retired to their rooms and many might have been trapped in their houses by the fire.”
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said the policemen are yet to determine the cause of the inferno.
Braide said: “The Divisional Police Officers within the area were at the scene to assist in putting out the fire and maintaining order.”
She added that the incident is under investigation.
According to the Lagos State Fire Service, more than 200 houses were razed in the state in the last six month.
The fire fighters said they were overwhelmed by increasing cases of fire outbreak and urged residents to take precautionary measures to avoid fire outbreaks.
