Three fake CBN officials arrested in Lagos

There is no means dubious persons would not employ in their desperate quest for illegal wealth.
This follows the arrest of three men for allegedly being in possession of fake dollar notes.
The suspects, identified as Olasende Akinsiku, 40; Abiodun Akiniyi, 35; and Tajudeen Lasisi 40, were picked up in Lagos State by policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos following complaints that the suspects were defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with fake dollars notes.
The suspects also allegedly have in their possession a fake Central Bank of Nigeria certificate.
The police said the suspects were exposed by a retired Major General whom the suspects had swindled.
It was gathered that the suspects lure their victims with promise of more than the required dollars for less amount of naira notes.
Akinsiku, one of the suspects, said: “I am a graphic artist.
“I am from Ondo State.
“My friend, Abiodun, alias Tokunbo Babatunde, is the owner of the machine we use to print the fake dollars.
|”He was the one who introduced me to crime.
“We usually tell our victims that we stole the dollars from my place of work and wanted to convert it into naira at a cheap rate so that the victims will not suspect that the dollar notes were fake.”
Narrating how they were arrested, Akinsiku said: “I went with Tokunbo to meet the General at the Women Development Centre at Agege to collect another N40,000.
“We were introduced to the General in Abuja.
“He has concluded arrangement to come back to Lagos to transport the consignment with bullion van to Abuja.
“We don’t know the General had alerted policemen from SARS.
“So that was how we were picked up.”
The police added that the suspects neatly packed the fake dollars in a small steel box and made the box look real, with the inscription “Vol: $2.5 million; domination – mixed, Grade A”. “Consignee”: the name of the retired General.
The suspects also made the cash look authentic with a forged CBN certificate and identity card bearing the name: Mr. Tunde Bakare, No.011, with which Abiodun allegedly impersonated a CBN official.
