I am following in your footsteps, Jonathan tells Obasanjo

The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has told former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he has not deviated from the path he laid as president between 1999 and 2007.
Speaking on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State at a civic reception in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Jonathan expounded the commitment of his administration to implementing the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party for the overall growth and development of the country.
Represented at the reception by Vice President Namadi Sambo, Jonathan said: “His (Obasanjo’s) administration in 1999 to 2007 laid a solid foundation for the development of our country through vibrant policies and programmes.
“I salute your continued support and preparedness to continue to do your best for the development of our dear nation.
“We must not forget the statesmanly role our Baba has played in the life of the nation.
“Having midwived democracy in 1979, it was him that ensured a smooth and peaceful transition from civilian to civilian rule when he handed over power to our late President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
“He laid a solid foundation, which we are currently building upon.
“He’s truly a leader we can trust.
“As a responsible government, our administration is fulfilling the policies and meeting its basic obligations to the people.
“We will continue to meticulously and painstakingly pursue well-conceived and action-oriented policies and programmes that will enjoy the test of time whose foundation are laid by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.”
Jonathan said his administration could be scored high in the areas of power, transportation, agriculture and education.
He urged Nigerians to play their roles effectively in order for the country to move forward.
He said: “As citizens of this country, we must all play our respective roles to ensure the overall progress of our society and the success of this government.”
