Families of victims, residents of crash site protest at Dana office

Families of victims of the 2012 Dana Airline crash are right now protesting what they have termed their ill treatment by the management of the airline.

The protest, at the Allen headquarters office of the airline in Lagos State, also has residents of the crash site in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos State participating. Both the relatives of the victims and the residents of the crash site are angry with the airline for not completing and paying adequate compensation to them, especially before returning to business.

For the families of the victims, only few of them have received the $100,000 mandatory compensation.

Most of them have only been paid $30,000.

Despite the explanation given by the airline and aviation regulatory authorities that full compensation cannot be paid until all processes were completed, many are of the opinion that the airline was deliberately stalling the payment.

For the resident of Iju-Ishaga, whose properties were damaged and lost relatives when the Abuja-Lagos flight crashed into their buildings, their grouse is inadequate compensation.

Some of the were given N500,000 for their destroyed houses.

The House of Representatives has faulted aviation authorities for allowing Dana Airline return to business despite all the outstanding issues.
