Four dead as gunmen attack Emir of Kano

No fewer than four persons were killed on Saturday when gunmen attacked the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
Those who died included the Emir’s driver and orderly, who shielded him from the bullets of the gunmen, reports from Kano said.
The gunmen were said to have struck on Zoo Road as Bayero was returning from a Quran recitation competition at the Murtala Mosque in Kano city, Kano State.
The eldest son of the emir was said to have been seriously injured during the attack.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack as at press time, dreaded sect, Boko Haram, has laid siege to Kano for some time.
Several persons were killed last year in the city during attacks by Boko Haram members.
In one of such attacks, about 200 persons were killed.
Boko Haram members have also made attempts on the lives of the Emir of Potiskum, Yobe State, and the Shehu of Borno in Borno State.
Both of them escaped unhurt.
There has been no official statement on the attempt on the life of Bayero.
