Contrary to the usual practice, State House correspondents were said to have been barred from interviewing any member of the delegation, which included traditional rulers, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, former Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State, Chief Emmanuel Inwuanyanwu and former Minister of Health, Prof. ABC Nwosu.
Oduah and other ministers and presidential aides from the South-East region were also present at the meeting.
Oduah is enmeshed in an alleged corrupt practice.
It came to the fore recently that two BMW Li series armoured cars were purchased for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for N255 million.
The amount was considered to have been highly inflated and the procurement said not to have followed due process.
The House of Representatives immediately set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the allegation that due process was not followed and that the amount was grossly inflated.
The committee has since submitted its report.
Also, President Jonathan in the heat of the controversy set up a three-man Administrative Panel of Inquiry headed by a former Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bello Sali.
On arrival from London recently, President Jonathan told newsmen at the Nnmadi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja that he had received the report of the panel of inquiry.
A source in the Presidency told The Eagle Online that the visit of Igbo elders may not be unconnected with the rumour that the President may soon take action on the report.
It was also gathered that the delegation used the opportunity to reassure Jonathan that the region would back him for a second term.
