Clark, who attended the Nigeria Centenary Lecture in London on Tuesday, told newsmen that the allegations, “though false”, were too weighty for Jonathan to ignore.
“Jonathan should reply the letter not because of Obasanjo, but for the sake of Nigerians,” Clark said.
Obasanjo in an 18-page letter, last week, accused the government of condoning malpractice.
Clark, an Ijaw leader and a staunch supporter of the current administration, said Obasanjo’s letter showed disrespect to the person and office of the president.
He added: “My advice is for Jonathan to remain firm and strong as the president of Nigeria and continue with his transformation agenda.”
The letter has continued to generate mixed reactions from Nigerians in Europe, with most Nigerians and analysts describing it as the “beauty of democracy”.

Boko Haram: A collective embarrassment to all faiths - Missioner
He said that it was difficult to know in whose interest they were fighting as they had attacked all faiths.
He said: “I state unequivocally that Islam is different from Boko Haram.
“We don’t know who they are, their sponsors and why they are killing people.
“They ought not to be killing Muslim scholars, if truly they are fighting in the interest of Islam.”
Ahmad described the group’s action as anti-Islam and ungodly, noting that Islam is a religion, which appreciates knowledge and research.
He said: “The Muslims were the front-runners in scientific education before the industrial revolution and would not have negated education.
“In this regard, the ADS and other notable Islamic organisations had contributed immensely to the nation’s educational development.”
Speaking on the use of hijab, Ahmad said that the Muslim community had designed one that was moderate for use in schools.
He stressed that everyone was entitled to his or her religious conviction.

APC to Jonathan: Don't take Nigeria back to Abacha days
In a statement issued in Osogbo, Osun State on Friday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party expressed serious concern over the allegations that the Jonathan administration is training snipers at the same facility where the Abacha killer squad was trained; talks of abuse and misuse of the military and other security apparatus for personal and political interest; as well as the reported placing of 1,000 people under a ‘political watch-list’
It said the party is constrained to take the allegations very seriously because it emanated from no less a personality than former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in an open letter he wrote to his fellow party man, President Jonathan, which has now been widely circulated in the traditional and Social Media.
Mohammed said in the statement: “All Nigerians must be worried by these weighty allegations, coming less than 15 years after the long-suffering people had collectively vowed ‘never again’ to a regime like Abacha’s that sent many innocent souls to their early graves and dispatched many citizens into forced exile for merely holding views that were opposed to that of the late dictator’s government.
“We are therefore compelled to call on President Jonathan to urgently address these allegations, which have already sent jitters down the spines of Nigerians, especially those who hold views that are diametrically opposed to the administration’s. The allegations cannot and must not be swept under the carpet, otherwise Nigerians will know who to hold responsible if perceived opponents of the administration come to any harm.”
The APC however expressed total satisfaction that more and more people within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party are now coming to terms with the real dangers facing the country under their party, which, despite being in power at the centre since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, has only succeeded in putting the country in reverse gear and is now threatening its fledgling democracy, following its (PDP’s) implosion.
The statement by the APC added: “We are not concerned by the dirty politics in the PDP and the glaring fact that the behemoth is sinking fast. What bothers us is the impact that the death throes of this rudderless party will have on our fragile polity.
“We in the opposition have shouted ourselves hoarse about the failings of the successive PDP administrations, especially the Jonathan government, in critical sectors of the economy, in particular the worsening unemployment that has put the nation on tenterhooks
“We have said the Boko Haram crisis cannot be resolved by military onslaught alone and that it must be tackled from its roots; that corruption has reached an unprecedented level; that the investments by the oil majors in that sector have dwindled dangerously; that the discovery of Shale oil in the US threatens our economy; and that the government must move fast to check the unprecedented high cases of crude oil theft.
“We have also issued numerous interventions on the victimization of perceived political opponents of President Jonathan, citing the case of Gov. Chibuike Amaechi as a reference point; that the Jonathan administration has taken Nigerians for granted by ignoring monumental cases of corruption and even embracing known corrupt officials as long as their deep pockets can benefit the President’s political machinery, and that the National Conference will not serve any purpose since it was conceived as a political gimmick rather than a genuine effort to help lift our country.
“Our party is delighted that these same issues were raised in the letter by President Jonathan’s estranged political Godfather, his very own party man. We recall that a few days earlier, another top PDP bigwig and the nation’s number four citizen, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, had lampooned the Jonathan administration’s apathetic fight against corruption.
“Because truth is constant, gradually but surely, people are rising above partisanship to join those of us who have been warning, ceaselessly, that the ship of state is heading for the rocks because the Captain has decided to ignore the radar and steer the ship blindly even in turbulent waters. This jettisoning of partisanship and the coming out of heads that have been buried in the sand for so long represent a good omen for Nigeria.”

Obasanjo Writes Jonathan: Our Country is Bleeding
Olusegun Obasanjo
- Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a frontal attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of sundry misdeeds.
Obasanjo in a letter dated December 2 entitled, 'Before It Is Too Late,' to the president, urged him to mend his ways and stop taking Nigerians for granted.
In the 18-page letter, a copy of which THISDAY obtained Wednesday from an online medium, Premium Times, Obasanjo raised concerns about the state of the economy, especially the mismanagement of the oil and gas sector, corruption, security and the president's yet-to-be declared second term bid.
Obasanjo was brutally frank with the president about his concern on how he has been running the ship of state and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also expressed concern about the president's scheming for a second term in office, warning that this could destroy the unity of the country and damage the trust of Nigerians in Jonathan.
Expectedly, the presidency, which acknowledged the receipt of the letter, condemned its leakage, which it described as an attempt to "impugn the integrity of the president and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership."
Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, in a statement yesterday, said Jonathan had ordered all his aides not to take on Obasanjo on the issues contained in the letter, adding that the president will personally respond to them at the appropriate time.
We were Informed that before sending the letter to Jonathan, Obasanjo had shown a draft copy to former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, who advised that the content should be toned down.
The former president, who was instrumental to the emergence of Jonathan as the running mate to the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua in the run-up to the 2007 presidential election, a post that paved the way for his presidency, said he was worried that Jonathan seemed to be encouraging the promotion of divisive tendencies for political expediency.
He said: “Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and the measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person who shared his observation with me. And only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honourable path.
"Mr. President, whatever may be your intention or plan, I cannot comment on much on the constitutional aspect of your second term or what some people called third term.... But if constitutionally you are on a strong wicket if you so decide, it will be fatally (and) morally flawed.
"As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character."
Obasanjo also urged Jonathan to take all necessary steps to stop the bleeding of the nation, saying “Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped, before it is too late.”
He accuse d Jonathan of betraying the people that brought him to power, while at the same time pursuing selfish personal and political interest based on advice that he gets from “self-centred aides.”
“It would be unfair to continue to level full blame on the chairman for all that goes wrong with the party. The chairman is playing the tune dictated by the paymaster but the paymaster is acting for a definitive purpose for which deceit and deception seem to be the major ingredients,” he said.
Besides, he added that many party members were disappointed with Jonathan, whom he accused of playing double game by supporting opposition parties' candidates in Ondo, Lagos, Anambra and Edo at the expense of PDP candidates in governorship elections in those states.
He also accused the president of encouraging tribalism, saying: “For you to allow yourself to be “possessed”, so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an “Ijaw man” is a mistake that should never have been allowed to happen."
"Yes, you have to be born in one part of Nigeria to be a Nigerian if not naturalised, but the Nigerian president must be above ethnic factionalism. And those who prop you up as of, and for ‘Ijaw nation’ are not your friends genuinely; not friends of Nigeria nor friends of ‘Ijaw nation’ they tout about.
“To allow or tacitly encourage people of ‘Ijaw nation’ to throw insults at other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as an Ijaw man is myopic and you’re not openly quieting them is even more unfortunate,” he added.
Also in a tacit reference to the release of former Maj Hamza Al-Mustapha, former chief security officer to the late General Sani Abacha, Obasanjo said: “Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of his victim.
“Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viewed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learned his lesson. Let us continue to watch.”
“The dramatis personae in this allegation and who they are working for will one day be public knowledge. Those who know are watching if the National Assembly will not be accomplice in the heinous crime and naked grand corruption. May God grant you the grace for at least one effective corrective action against high corruption which seems to stink all around you in your government,” he said.
As a parting shot, the former president said he knew he had stirred the hornet's nest with his letter detailing the misdeeds of the president and he would be ready for attacks by his aides and the federal government,.
He however said he was unperturbed by the likely threats, adding: “Knowing what happens around you most of which you know of and condone or deny, this letter will provoke cacophony from hired and unhired attackers but I will maintain my serenity because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria.
“I have passed the stage of being flattered, intimidated, threatened, frightened, induced or bought… Death is the end of all human beings and may it come when God wills it to come.”
In a swift response, Jonathan's spokesman who acknowledged the receipt of the letter, said it was "highly unbecoming, mischievous and provocative that a letter written by a former head of state and respected elder statesman to President Jonathan has been deliberately leaked to the mass media in a deplorable effort to impugn the integrity of the president and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership."
According to him, while some Nigerians have condemned the letter as self-serving, hypocritical, malicious, indecent, and very disrespectful of the office of the president, Jonathan has ordered his aides or any government official not to react to Obasanjo's vituperation.
"The president himself will, at the appropriate time, offer a full personal response to the most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him and his administration by the former head of state," he added.
"Chief Obasanjo in his position as former president under the PDP platform should have known very well the constitution of the party, the party manifestos as it relates to the independence of the PDP National Working Committee.
"For him to insinuate that the president is using the national chairman to cause multiple problems for the party doesn't in any way portray him as a true democrat.
"Chief Obasanjo is very much aware of the fact that Dr Bamanga Tukur is a man of honour and proven integrity who shouldn't be portrayed as a stooge to anybody," he said.

Senate reverses decision on seven-year jail term for social media critics
The section reads: “Anyone who intentionally propagates false information that could threaten the security of the country or capable of inciting the general public against the government through electronic message shall be guilty of an offence.
“And upon conviction shall be sentenced to seven years imprisonment or N5 million fine.”
Kaka, who announced to newsmen, said the decision was taken after due consultation with stakeholders.
He said: “Following the public hearing, which was held after the second reading, the Section 13 (3) of the provision was taken exception to by the social media.
“And since the bill is now in the public, I decided to consult with the Senate Committee Chairman on Information, Media and Public Affairs, and that of Judiciary.
“After consultations, we resolved that Section 13 (3) of the proposed bill could be abused at any point in time and could be misinterpreted.
“And as a result, I have their permission to announce to the world that that section shall be deleted.”
The bill is entitled: “A bill for an Act to provide for the prohibition of and punishment for electronic fraud and crime in all electronic transactions in Nigeria.”
The bill passed through the second reading in the Senate and was greeted with a lot of criticism from the social media.
Kaka expressed gratitude for all the contributions made both locally and internationally, adding that they further enriched the bill.
He added that more suggestions and debates concerning the bill would still be welcomed, to further enrich it in the overall interest of the country.
The lawmaker emphasised that the bill was not to gag the media but rather targeted against the misuse of the Internet, to curb the activities of scammers.

Oduahgate: Igbo elders storm Aso Rock to plead with Jonathan
Contrary to the usual practice, State House correspondents were said to have been barred from interviewing any member of the delegation, which included traditional rulers, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, former Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State, Chief Emmanuel Inwuanyanwu and former Minister of Health, Prof. ABC Nwosu.
Oduah and other ministers and presidential aides from the South-East region were also present at the meeting.
Oduah is enmeshed in an alleged corrupt practice.
It came to the fore recently that two BMW Li series armoured cars were purchased for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for N255 million.
The amount was considered to have been highly inflated and the procurement said not to have followed due process.
The House of Representatives immediately set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the allegation that due process was not followed and that the amount was grossly inflated.
The committee has since submitted its report.
Also, President Jonathan in the heat of the controversy set up a three-man Administrative Panel of Inquiry headed by a former Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bello Sali.
On arrival from London recently, President Jonathan told newsmen at the Nnmadi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja that he had received the report of the panel of inquiry.
A source in the Presidency told The Eagle Online that the visit of Igbo elders may not be unconnected with the rumour that the President may soon take action on the report.
It was also gathered that the delegation used the opportunity to reassure Jonathan that the region would back him for a second term.
